Pastor Alejandro currently serves as the Delaware-Maryland Synod Administrator and will be at LCGS part-time. In addition to preaching and presiding at Sunday Worship services, Pastor Alejandro will be in the office (or visiting as needed) on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. Specifically, he will lead or be involved with: weekly staff meeting; confirmation instruction; Worship and Music, Social Justice, and other Ministry Team meetings as needed, and Pastoral Care.
Pastor Alejandro is originally from Colombia South America and is a four generation Lutheran and an ELCA Ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament.
Pastor Mejia worked as Resident Chaplain in the Spiritual Care Department at Johns Hopkins Hospital System where he was also trained in Clinical Pastoral Education. He has been deeply involved as an advocate of the Hispanic community. Pastor Alejandro also served in the capacity of Youth and Family Ministries Director, provided support in the areas of Pastoral Care and Worship and was invited to have a role in the ELCA National Youth Gathering as the Presider for the closing Worship Service.
Thanks to his bilingualism, and his abilities as a good listener, an empathetic counselor, and enthusiastic community builder, Pastor Alejandro has been able to build bridges between various minorities, and between the Anglo and Latino Communities. He has been a strong advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, serving in different organizations in various capacities and has been invited by civil organizations as a guest speaker at different events and rallies in favor of minorities, being the only Latino clergy involved in such events.
Before moving to the United States, Pastor Alejandro was a music educator at school and college and served in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Colombia. In his spare time, Pastor Alejandro enjoys playing and walking with his four-legged child Tomas, likes to practice yoga, go to the gym, traveling, reading, or just to watch an interesting show on Netflix.
We are excited that Pastor Alejandro Mejia will be walking with us during this time of pastoral transition! The role of an Interim Pastor (as defined by the ELCA) is to:
Pastor Alejandro will reply to emails when in the office Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings so please be patient.
Sherman has been a member of LCGS since 2015. He grew up in Overlea with two brothers and was baptized and confirmed at Epiphany Lutheran church. After his military tour of duty in the Air Force, later moved to Perry Hall and became a member of St. Michaels Lutheran Church. When Ann and Sherman moved to Harford County, they became members at Trinity Lutheran church, Joppa until 2015 when they transferred to LCGS. Sherman had already been active as a Stephen Minister and also served in the areas of Stewardship, Eucharistic Ministry and Worship assistant when he decided to answer the call and take the next step and become a Deacon. He was set apart as Deacon in the Order of St. Stephen in the summer of 2018. In that role he heads up the Caring Ministry which focuses on helping new members get plugged in to ministries where they feel called to serve, and reaching out to members whom we haven’t seen in a while.
Outside LCGS, Sherman is the General Manager of Belair Road Supply, and has been with them since the 1990s. Sherman enjoys volunteering for Hospice, reading, and playing Jazz percussion.

Gina joined the office staff after having been a member at LCGS for over 18 years. In her previous life (read, before kids) she worked as the Personnel Director for a civil engineering firm in Baltimore supporting over 300 employees. She enjoyed the time being a full time mom and volunteer but, feels very blessed and happy to be putting her gifts to work with the congregation she loves.
If not working in church ministry, Gina may be found running a little coffee and breakfast joint or planning parties and events.

Dawn grew up here in Harford County and before coming to LCGS, she worked for 24 years at the Salvation Army. While there, she managed the office, supported clients, and oversaw the financial reporting.
Dawn enjoys working in church ministry but if she wasn't, she's not sure what she would be doing but hopes it would involve a good bit of time on a beach somewhere!
