Servanthood opportunities abound! What talents can
you share to help our wider community?
The Servanthood Ministry Team has many outreach activities
planned, and we welcome all to bring their time and talent to
spread the Good News throughout our community. Your involvement
can come in many ways. Are you a great cook? We need ground beef
barbecue prepared for the Sharing Table when it is our turn to
serve a hot meal there, or cooks for the overnight shelter when
we serve there. Do your friends say you are a "people person?"
Come and serve or sit and chat at one of these events. Do you
have some warm winter coats to donate? The people who visit the
Sharing Table would be glad to receive them during the colder
months.
Do you like to shop? How about picking up a few
extra cans of food for our Harvest Month in November or pulling
a few gift tags for the Christmas Basket Project? Are you a great
organizer? We could sure use your skills for our Christmas Basket
Project or for the Soles4Souls shoe drive. Do you have a green
thumb? Share some of the abundance from your garden by donating
your extra vegetables to Community Action Agency. We'll deliver
them for you to the Food Pantry.
Our team meets the first Tuesday of the month at
7 p.m. Your wise counsel and willing hands are always welcome!
Regardless of whether you can make the meetings, volunteer opportunities
abound and we are also looking for co-leaders on specific projects.
ONGOING PROJECTS
The Gift of Sight -
If you have replaced your eyeglasses, why not donate the previous pair to the
Lions Club? A collection box is in the coat room. All types of eyeglasses including
reading glasses, bifocals, and sunglasses (prescription and non-prescription)
are needed. Eyeglasses are cleaned, categorized by prescription, and prepared
for distribution by Lions Club volunteers.
HAVE AN OLD CELL PHONE? -
Used cell phones are re-programmed for emergencies and
distributed to SARC (Spousal Abuse Resource Center). A collection box is located in the coat room.
PROJECT LINUS -
Knitted, crocheted, sewn blankets are given to young children in need.
Project Linus provides love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children
who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of
new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."
ANNA'S HOUSE -
Toiletries and kitchen/bath items are collected and distributed to
clients. Anna's House is a short term housing for women and children. The women
attend classes, search for a job, get training, and other help to be able to stand
on their own again.
SHARING TABLE -
The second Sunday of every month food is collected for the clients of the Sharing Table and once
a quarter we cook and serve the meal. LCGS is one of the many churches that make
up this coalition.
FCCAU -
On the first Wednesday of the month Betty Ann and friends
from the Daytimers fellowship group provide and serve a hot meal at the Welcome
One Fellowship Center in Edgewood. This center is a day facility for those in
need. The clients include the homeless, senior citizens, low income-individuals
and families, and others who lack food, fellowship, and services.
Save Campbell’s product labels for NAVAJO LUTHERAN MISSION SCHOOL -
We collect Campbell’s product UPC codes to help the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission School
on the Rock Point Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona. The school can earn free
educational materials such as computers, audiovisual aids, sports equipment, reference
books, musical instruments, and even a mini van. The school has already earned
six mini vans to transport children to school and people to church! Campbell's
no longer accepts front face labels from products but will still take UPC codes
with the logo of the Campbell’s Soup Kid next to them.
If you would like to help your neighbor in need by participating in any of these
ministries talk to Kim Wagner, Servanthood team leader, or team members: Karen
Nordman, Betty Ann Smith, Karen Hilton, Sandy & Dick Depkin or email
the church office for more information.
